CAKEWALK'S SUMMER 2009 COLLECTION HAS GIRLY SPIRIT!

For the Summer 2009 collection, the Cakewalk children's clothing brand has once again drawn inspiration from all over the world. This time the lives of girls in Istria (Croatia), Kansas (USA) and Brazil are the main focus. The result: three sparkling, colour-rich collections with a huge variety of pleats, balloon sleeves, elegant dresses, parkas and rugged trousers in various lengths and widths. New items include A-line tunics and straight shirt dresses. Along with the light-weight materials, lively designs and a new logo that shines on all the items, it?s easy to see what Cakewalk is all about: happy, casual clothing with a girly spirit! Also new is that an overarching theme was chosen for each collection, showing the world as seen through the eyes of a child. Leading off Summer 2009, ?bubbles are blowing?, in all shapes and sizes. Cheery, and sometimes exciting to do, too! We also see the theme reflected in the photography for this collection.

Collecting Folklore

A girl from a traditional seaside resort in Istria is staying with her grandmother while her father is at sea. With this girl in the back of our minds, a fresh seaside collection with folkloristic influences was designed; for example, Grandmother?s needlework makes a comeback in embroidery with colourful yarns. The influence of sea and wind is visible in fresh colours such asocean and azure in combination with brilliant white. Trousers, skirts and shorts come in navy blue and denim. This makes a pretty contrast for cyclamen and powder-pink tops and dresses. New features in this Cakewalk collection include nonchalant seersucker cotton, a lively border print on a pleated skirt and an A-line overcoat with an all-over print in pink.

Sunflower Street

The second Cakewalk theme is set on a farm in the Kansas heartlands. Here lives a girl who frolics outside with the geese and plays hide-and-seek in her father?s sunflower fields. She wears trousers, skirts and shorts in earthy colours like rubber and sand, combined with sweet tops in pink and white, and a touch of purple to add a spicy note. Striking in this collection is an airy poplin with an all-over print inspired by sunflowers against a chequered background. The twill motor jacket with subtle glitter print is girlishly rugged.

Amazon Spirit

In the sultry Amazon region, a Brazilian girl joins in a summer volunteer project to protect endangered pink dolphins. That calls for airy fabrics like poplin and tricot in fresh, bright colours. In tops as well as bottoms, white takes centre stage. Blouses, tunics, shirts and vests come in a jungle stripe in olive and apple-green and a polka dot pattern in raspberry red. The jungle mood also comes out in rugged garment-dyed poplin. The double-layered white skirt is an eye-catcher. This piece features loosely scattered prints, which are embellished with white embroidery.
